Radiohead - In Rainbows

Radiohead have announced they are releasing a new album IN RAINBOWS on October 10th. It'll be available for download only at that time. You can pre-order it now at www.InRainwbows.com - The craziest thing about all of this is that they allow you to choose how much you want to pay for it (the download of the album.) They literally say the price is "up to you."

You can also preorder a discbox version which includes a CD, an 2 LPs, and the download of the album on October 10th. They said that those will be made to order and will be begun to be shipped by December 3.

So basically it looks like they are completely bypassing the record label thing (at least for now.) Pretty awesome in my opinion. People were expecting a new Radiohead album sometime next year. So for them to suddenly announce it's "out in 10 days" yesterday was quite a surprise. Those crazy Radiohead cats. I think it's rather fantastic that they've managed to bring back that feeling of excitement for a new album. I don't remember being this excited to hear a new album in a long time. I love the idea of however many Radiohead fans all hearing the album for the first time on October 10th rather than the usual slow "leak" that has become customary over the last 10 years of file sharing.

It's funny to me that they've somehow brought back that old school excitement of a new album's release by doing something completely different & new.
